HIV Urine Sample Testing

HIV testing using an urine sample is only a preliminary test,and may be useful for medical purposes when the collection of blood samples is impractical. Any positive result must be confirmed by a blood sample test. Urine sample testing is authorized by hospitals, and testing clinics and it has a satisfactory accuracy rate, but a blood test is still the test of choice.

What is the Home Aware? HIV-1/2 U (urine) test ?
The Home Aware? HIV-1/2 U (urine) test is a single-use, qualitative, visually read, in vitro immunoassay for the detection of antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 (HIV-1) and Type 2 (HIV-2) in human urine specimens. The Home Aware? HIV-1/2 U test is intended for use as a diagnostic aid in the clinical diagnosis of HIV infection. It can be used as a component of a multitest rapid HIV testing algorithm in conjunction with other approved HIV antibody assays.

Test results are read visually after 20 minutes, without use of any instruments.

However you need to know that the antibody test is not a test for the disease AIDS - it does not tell you if you have AIDS. It will only show whether you have come into contact with the virus which may cause AIDS.

What will the test tell me?
A positive test result shows that the antibody has been found. If the person is tested positive, He / She need to contact to the physician immediately for confirmation of HIV by ELISA or Western Blot. Proper Counseling and help of person?s physician, conversion time of HIV into AIDS can be enhanced on health diet, Vitamin and medications.

A negative test result shows that the antibody has not been found. If you have any doubts or came in contact with any objects which spread HIV, perform the test again in 90 days and repeat in 180 days from the date of probable infection.

PRECAUTIONS
  • Carefully follow the instructions exactly.
  • Only use the included pipette.
  • This kit is for in vitro use only. Do not swallow.
  • Discard after first use. The test can only be used once.
  • Do not use test kit beyond the expiration date.
  • Do not use the kit if the pouch is punctured or not well sealed.
  • Keep out of children's reach.

STORAGE AND STABILITY
  • Store at 2-30?Cin the sealed pouch up to expiration date.
  • Keep away from sunlight, moisture and heat.
  • Use the test shortly after opening the pouch.
  • Do not freeze.

TEST PROCEDURE
  • When the test have been stored in a cold room, wait for it to reach room temperature (10-30?C).
  • Wash the hands thoroughly to avoid contamination of the specimen.
  • Tear open the foil pouch containing the test strip and remove the test tube.
  • Dispense 200 microliters of urine sample into test tube using a transfer pipette.
  • Place the test strip into the urine sample in the test tube (place the strip so that the arrows on the assay strip are pointing down into the urine sample).


HOW TO INTERPRET THE RESULT
Read the test results between twenty (20) and forty-five (45) minutes.

Positive (HIV infection):
Colored lines are visible in the control region and the test region. This means that infection by HIV is likely. As with a laboratory test it needs to be confirmed with a secondary test before a diagnosis can be made. Therefore it is very important that, in case of a positive result, another test is made at a clinic.

The intensity of the color of the lines varies due to different concentrations of HIV antibodies but also other blood values and therefore no meaning is attributed to line color intensity or width.

Negative (No HIV infection):
One colored line is visible in the control region and no colored line in the test region. This means that no HIV infection was detected.

Invalid:
There are no colored lines or only a colored line in the test region. The most common reason for an invalid test result is that the test procedure was not carried out properly.
