Why is testing for chlamydia important?
Chlamydia testing is very important because if left untreated, chlamydia infection can lead to other more serious problems - even if you are unaware of any symptoms at first. Who should test for chlamydia?

Home Aware One-Step Chlamydia Test Kit
Home Aware Chlamydia urine/swab test is a rapid immunology- chromatographic test for the visual detection of Chlamydia trachoma antigen in either endocervical swab or urine specimens. This test adopts double sandwich method. When add exactly four drops of specimen to the sample well the specimen is absorbed into the device by capillary action, mixes with the antibody-dye conjugate, and flows across the pre-coated membrane.

Test results are read visually in 15 minutes and without use of any instruments.

What will the test tell me?
A positive test indicates an active infection that requires treatment with a course of antibiotics.

A negative test means only that there is no evidence of disease at the time of the test. It is important for those who are at increased risk of infection to have screening tests performed on a regular basis to check for possible exposure, especially since re-infection is common, particularly among teenagers.

If you are infected, your sexual partner(s) should also be tested and treated as well.

How Is Chlamydia Treated?
Chlamydia is treated by taking antibiotics. It is important to take all the medicine that is prescribed for you. It is also important that your sex partner(s) get treatment at the same time, otherwise, you will continue to re-infect each other. It is also recommended that you have another Aware Home test completed between 3 to 6 weeks after the completion of your antibiotics in order to be sure that the infection is gone.

PRECAUTIONS

STORAGE AND STABILITY
  • Store at 4? C to 30? C in the sealed pouch up to expiration date.
  • Keep away from sunlight, moisture and heat.
  • Use the test shortly after opening the pouch.
  • Do not freeze.
SPECIMEN COLLECTION AND PREPARATION

A. Endocervical sample (Females)
Remove any excess mucus from the potentially infected site with the first swab, and then discard it. Insert the second swab into the endocervical canal until most of the tip is no longer visible; Rotate the swab for 15-30 seconds. Carefully withdraw the swab without touching the vaginal surface.

B. Endourethral sample (Males)
Insert the swab into the urethra of the penis and rotate for 3-5 seconds and withdraw.

C. Urine specimen
Collect 20-40 mL urine specimen. First morning specimens are preferred.

TEST PROCEDURE
  • When the test has been stored in a cold room, wait for it to reach room temperature (10? C - 30? C).
  • Add 5 drops of reagent 1 to the extraction tube. Place the specimen swab in the tube and swirl thoroughly for 10 seconds. Leave at room temperature (10? C - 30? C) for 5 minutes, with the swab in the tube.
  • Swirl the swab 2-3 times for a few seconds during the extraction step, pressing it against the wall of the tube to expel the liquid and insure thorough contact of reagents and specimen.
  • At the end of the 5 minutes, thoroughly remove as much extract from the swab as possible by raising it above the liquid level and squeezing the extraction tube.
  • Remove swab and then add 5 drops of reagent 2.
  • The extract can remain at room temperature for up to 30 minutes without affecting the test results.
  • In the case of urine specimen, use the tube with precipitate for detection. Add 5 drops of reagent 1 into the tube and mix well. After 5 minutes, add 5 drops of reagent 2 and mix well.
  • Remove the test cassette from its sealed foil pouch by tearing at the notch. Dispense 4 drops of liquid from the extraction tube into the sample well of the test device by inverting and squeezing the tube.


HOW TO INTERPRET THE RESULT
Results can be read at 5-20 minutes. 20 minutes should be allowed to confirm a negative result.

Note: There is no meaning attributed to line color intensity or width.

Positive (Chlamydia infection):
Rose-pink bands are visible both in the control region and the test region. The sample should be considered positive for Chlamydia trachomatis.

Negative (no infection):
A rose-pink band is visible in the control region. No color band appears in the test region. The sample should be considered negative for Chlamydia trachomatis.

Invalid:
There are no colored lines or only a colored line in the test region. The most common reason for an invalid test result is that the test procedure was not carried out properly.
